The grouping of the great divisions of the Abbey is very perfect from this point. The enormous height of the central tower is reduced into proportion by the lofty erections about its base, and a magnificent idea of extent is produced by the great distance at which the towers appear, which teminate the eastern and southern extremities ... (p.67).
