Name: James Watt
Dates: 1769-1848
Notes: Engineer. Son of James Watt (1736-1819). Partner in Boulton & Watt, engineers, Birmingham; fitted the Caledonia with engines and steamed to Holland and up the Rhine, this being the first steamship to leave an English port, 1817; improved marine engines. Member of the Manchester Constitutional Society. He was in Paris in 1792, returning to England in 1794.
