Name Details

Name: River Clyde Police Force
Notes: The River Clyde Police were established in 1858. They were responsible for policing the river as far as the tail of the bank, and in 1866 they were absorbed into the Glasgow Police. The Police Museum in Glasgow has a Clyde Police uniform button. James Cowan wrote about his journey in a marine police launch in the 1930s, when the police duties included ensuring that none of the industries lining the Clyde discharged waste oil in the docks, or dumped any rubbish in the river.
