Dates: 1369-1444
Notes: Italian humanist scholar. Secretary to the papal chancery from 1405. Served as chancellor of Florence from 1427 until his death in 1444. His Historiarum Florentini populi libri XII (1610) is the first history of Florence based on a critical examination of the source material. Author of Latin translations of classical Greek works, including Plato, Aristotle, and Plutarch and Italian-language biographies of Dante, Petrarch, and Giovanni Boccaccio.
