Hafiz's Divan:
Begins: [Persian characters]
Remarks: The small pictures (?mythical) personages are block-printed in colours in compartments about 2 x 1 5/8, three rows of three figures each going to a page, the top row being separately attached. In addition two portions of a large coloured print, similar to those which are attached to the boards (?of a conjuring entertainment), are inserted towards the end of the volume, at the end of which, mounted on a guard, is a large coloured print. A row of the little figures already noticed is pasted on to form its lower border.
With this last it measures 21 x 9 5/8, and appears to represent an assembly of seated buddhist saints and sages, with two grotesque figures in the upper row, under which is a figure with attendants of (?) the Grand Lama. Chinese titles accompany all the figures and surmount the whole.
For other copies of this MS., see Brit. Mus. Cat. p. 627 ff.
