Title: The Praises of Tara
Date of Creation: Not assigned
Level of Description: Item
Part of MS Hunter 1-658
Content: Unknown Author, The Praises of Tara.
Unknown Buddhist Author's Religious Book in Calmuck "The Praises of [the goddess] Tará."
Remarks: This work was originally translated from Tibetan into Mongol, as Mr. A.G. Ellis of the British Museum kindly informed us.
Where the Calmuck numerals differ most from the Arabic, a marginal note in Latin explains them.
The same XVIII. Cent. hand, apparently, has added on the first (?) verso: Manus Gabrielis Mogulensis.
This volume lacks the Hunt. Mus. Library book-plate.
[Formerly P.4.20].
Oirat or West Mongol perhaps a better qualification of the type of Mongolian.
The title in transcription reads: xutuktu dara ekeyin
maktal kemekü orosibo
(Cf. letter from C.R. Bawden to DJW, 24 February 1987)
