Remarks: The fly-leaves at the beginning and end contain Arabic verses and the statement that the copyist - Ibn Yuhanna - was in Rome in the year 5582, during the pontificate of Gregory [XIII].
On the verso of the last fly-leaf, in a XVII.-XVIII. Cent. French hand: 5. | Epistre d'Hermeti en | Arab. On the same page is pencilled, in an XVIII.-XIX. Cent. hand: Prayer book | in | Arabic.
Attached to the back board is a slip of paper inscribed in the same (?) French hand: EpistolŠ Hermetis Sapi- | entis Scriptus codex ab | Homine Christiano et | SententiŠ Morales et | nonnihil ex S. Ephrem | Syro.
Inserted loose in the seventh quire is a scrap of paper inscribed in the same (?) hand: Ben Haned tonsee | Ben Haned Tonsee.
The drawings in quire seven are partly in ink and partly in colour. With the exception of the fifth (a flaming furnace surmounted by a flaming crown, all in red and yellow, with alchemical symbols on each side), all are contained within the outline of what resembles a modern carafe.

Physical Description: Bound volume.
Paper (unsized), 2 3/8 x 3 3/4, ff. 159, written in single cols. of 12 lines, each 2 3/4 x 2, rubrics, of the nine, signed, quires the last two folios of the seventh, the eighth and the first thirteen folios of the ninth are blank, six coloured drawings occur in the second half of the seventh quire (see Remarks in Description), the writing begins on what would be ordinarily the last quire.
Binding: Limp, coarse blue paper covered, the first board is lost, replaced by a cover of coarse paper
