Date of Creation: Between 1652 and 1654
Level of Description: Item
Part of MS Hunter 1-658
Content: Unknown Author, Mughni'l Nasihin Wa Muhdi'l 'Abidin.
Unknown Author's "Book sufficing the Sincere", a Homiletic Compendium:
Begins: [Arabic characters]
Remarks: Four lines of Arabic on the first recto contain a tradition from Muhammad that persons in debt are not required to give alms.
On the first free fly-leaf is the title in Arabic, followed by [in Arabic]: The property of Sulaiman Effendi, etc.
A table of contents precedes with the subjects and numbers of 94 homilies which, however, do not correspond with the text of the work.
This work represents a religious compendium, consisting of eighty-four homilies. It was copied by Ahmadu'bn Isma'il in the city of Buda in the convent (takyah) of Shaikh Sulaiman Effendi, the preacher in the great mosque in the year 1064 A.H. (1653-4 A.D.) Cf. T.7.7.
On the front board in a XVII.-XVIII. Cent. French hand: Liber Turcicus MS. sine vocalibus | De variis ceremoniis et ritibus turcicis.
The author's name does not appear.
On the verso of the first page, under four lines of Turkish and Arabic (prayers for deliverance), is the following inscription: Ex libris | G.S. Bayeri | Lipsiae | XV Cal. Aprilis | CICDCCXVII | In schedula aliqua huic MS. inserta haec scripta inueni: A. 1531.
