On the fly-leaf of this MS. there is the following title: "A Diploma by the University of Padua in Italy for conferring the Degree of Doctor in Physick upon Mr. Thomas Coxe a Somersetshire Gentleman. Dated 1641. Tho. Martin". 4to.
Two large seals of the University of Padua are attached to the Diploma.
Coxe was a Doctor in the Parliamentary army. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and President of the Royal College of Physicians.
"Tho. Martin" is doubtless Thomas Martin, the antiquary, 1697-1771
