Item Details

Call Number: MS Hunter 611 (S.7.5)
Title: Bibliographia Anatomica
Date of Creation: Not assigned
Level of Description: Item
Part of MS Hunter 1-658
Content: James Douglas, M.D., F.R.S.
On the first fly-leaf of this MS. is written in ink, apparently in William Hunter's hand, this title: "Bibliographia Anatomica. Published". Then in pencil, also, apparently, by Hunter, is added: "By Douglas".
On the last fly-leaf is this title: "Bibliographiae Anatomicae Specimen sive catalogus omnium pene authorum qui de re Anatomica scripserunt ab Hippocrate Coo ad Guilelmum HarvŠ. Angl." 4to.
This second title and the MS. itself are in Douglas's own handwriting. Douglas published in 1715 BibliographiŠ AnatomicŠ Specimen... But that work is not exactly the same as the present MS.
The resemblance is so close that the MS. is probably the rough draft intended for publication: Per Prof. K.W. Russell, 7 November 1955.
In this manuscript the anatomists are arranged alphabetically by Christian name, in the published work they are arranged chronologically
