Item Details

Call Number: MS Hunter 577 (S.5.3)
Date of Creation: Not assigned
Level of Description: Item
Part of MS Hunter 1-658
Content: David Watson (?).
The first MS. in this volume is headed: "Horace's account of his own life faithfully collected from his writings". The second MS. has this fly-title: "A Biographical & Geographical Dictionary of the whole works of Horace... For the use of Schools. By David Watson, M.A., of St Leonard's College St Andrews." 4to.
The second MS. may have been a preparatory study for MS Hunter 573 (S.4.18). Neither appears to have been published. It is almost certain that Watson was not an M.A. of St. Andrews. See Dict. of Nat. Biog. LX.
Almost certainly Watson acting as amanuensis for James Douglas: per Mrs. Brock.
First MS. Amanuensis I.J. Douglas and Samuel Boyse.
Second MS. Only title page in David Watson's handwriting, the rest in that of one of James Douglas's children
