On a fly-leaf at the beginning of the volume is the following inscription: "The Anatomy of the patella or the Description and history of the Moveable bone of the knee: considered in a natural and diseased state. With figures after the life, by J.D." Near the end of the volume there is another MS., at the top of the first page of which is this title: "Some Remarks upon a Transverse Fracture of the Patella. Read before the Royall Society November 14. 1724 J.D." Then there follows a MS. which has this title at the top of the first page: "Index Auctorum", and which gives a list, in alphabetical order, of famous writers on medicine and surgery, with the titles of their works. Then there are a few pages of MS. headed: "Some Observations made in Dissecting a stiff Joint of the Knee". And, lastly, a letter, dated March 5th 1724/5, evidently to Douglas, from "Jon Shipton", which treats mainly of the patella. Folio.
Shipton is no doubt John Shipton, Surgeon, 1680-1748.
