1, 2-9. contain the titles of over a hundred medical works arranged according to size, folio quarto and 8vo. 1, 8. 9. are still uncut.
1, 11 recto [p. '1st'] is headed: Observations on the Gout from W: Aitkins | Lond: 1694.
1, 17 recto [p. '13'] is headed: Observations on the Vener: deasese | by Harvy M:D: 1685. disease [this word written under the last of the first line which is struck through].
2, 6 recto [p. '31'] is headed: Pharmacopeia in usum Pauperum | in Nosocomio Divi Thomę. Doctoribus dominis | Mead | Coatsworth [a brace precedes these two names] Chyrurgis | Fearn | Ridout Gale [a brace precedes these three names] Pharmacopolus Davis. This Pharmacopoeia extends to 4, 7 recto after which the leaves are blank till 6, 5 recto, which is headed: Portsmouth July 1st 1714.
12, 11 verso and recto (inverted) contain an index of the following (12, 10-11, 11 recto (inverted)) folios; the last entry (on page '65') is dated June 3rd, 1717. Between 1, 8. and 9. are inserted (loose) two early XVIII. Cent. prescriptions on scraps of paper.
Dr. Richard Mead (1673-1754) was physician to St. Thomas's Hospital 1703-15. See Dict. Nat. Biog. xxxvii. 181.

Paper, 7 5/8 x 5 5/8, ff. 152, written in single and double cols., the former of about 30 lines, each about 7¼ x 5¼, not ruled or margined, the latter of about 25 lines, each 7 x 2 3/4, no catchwords or signatures, pagination partial, from each end, pp. 1-62, and (inverted) pp. 70-1. Cent. XVII.-XVIII.
Binding: Original, limp vellum, vellum backstraps and ties. Late Cent. XVII.
