On 27, 3 verso are four lines in a XIV.-XV. Cent. hand, beginning: + [Greek characters]
The "Theophanes Patriarch of Jerusalem" on 1, 1 recto was probably the second or third of that name. There were four patriarchs so named according to Le Quien (Oriens Christianus, T. iii. cols. 506-14) [G.U.L. Ea 3. x. 16].
Theophanes I. was the 98th in order, who flourished in the end of the XII. or beginning of the XIII. Cent.
Theophanes II., the 109th in order, was elected 1430.
Theophanes III., the 111th in order, who attended the schismatic synod in Constantinople soon after the death of Joannes Paleologus VII. (1448), succeeded Joachim according to Allatius (De Consensu, III. iv. 1380).
Theophanes IV., the 119th in order, was elected 1608 (according to Dositheus [Hist. Hierosol. Lib. vii. c. 23], or 1602-3 (according to Jo. Hen. Hollinger), and died 1646.
S. Gregory of Nazianzus, Archbishop of Constantinople (329-389), father of the Greek Church, was famous as a poet and rhetorician.

Vellum, 10 3/4 x 8, ff. 237 (not counting the indexed fly-leaf), originally ff. 246, well written in double cols. of 24 lines, each 7 5/8 x 2 5/8, ruled and margined with bodkin, signatures original (mostly cropped, the sixteenth quire not signed) and late XVII. or early XVIII. Cent. (in pencil, the seventh is signed 9, and so on), no catchwords or foliation, but the signatures were repeated on each first recto and last verso, gilt illuminated headpieces and initials, gilt over red initials and rubrics (enclosed in the headpieces), few marginalia, well preserved, margins mended, index leaf mounted, much cropped, fol. sec. [Greek characters]. Cent. XI.-XII.
