The floreated border on page 2 is unfinished; in the upper margin is a gilt-framed space, 1½ x 2, coloured magenta ground only; a similarly framed circle in the outer margin contains pen and ink sketch of a spaniel; in the lower margin two amoretti with magenta and gold wings support a heraldic wreath gilt-framed as above, but the space is blank.
Giulio Pomponio Leto (1427-1497) was a distinguished Italian Latinist.

Vellum (fine), 6 x 3 7/8, ff. 83, well written in two Italian hands (ff. 1-36 recto and 36 verso-82 verso), in single cols. of 14 and 15 lines, each 3 7/8 x 2 and 4 x 2 respectively, ruled and margined with red, signatures all cropped, catchwords (only traces left), foliation, contemporary, f. '32' omitted, the first page floreated (the illumination not finished), f. 36 verso half floreated, rubrics and rubricated initials, rubricated marginalia in 2, otherwise unmarked, worm-holed, much cropped, fol. sec. BREVEM. End of Cent. XV.
Binding: Millboards, covered crimson morocco, gilt-tooled sides (lines), edges, and inside margins, panelled back, green silk ribbon markers, gilt edges, title (gilt) on dark green morocco shield: RUFUS | FESTUS. Cent. XVIII.
