Joannes Platearius of Salerno's Treatise on Medicine:
Begins (1, 1 recto [p. 1] line 1): C [large blue and red illuminated initial with gestures] Irca instans negocium in simplici = Ed. Lugd. f. ccxxiij. col. a, line 1.
Ends (11, 7 verso [p. 248] lines 11-13): salerni diximus . littera iam lasso: pollice sistat opus. | Explicit liber platearij de singulari et simplici medicina | Deo gracias.
Remarks: On the verso of i, 4. in Dr. Wm. Hunter's hand: Platearii Liber de Medicina.
iii, 1. is filled recto and verso with an index (XIV. Cent.) in three cols. The first col. recto effaced (by damp).
Another index (contemporary) begins under the explicit on page 248 and extends to 11, 8 verso col. b, line 11: ydrepisis 64.
A XVI. Cent. receipt, headed "De Revma a capite", fills the rest of the column.
Joannes Pltearius, according to Salvatore de Renzi (Collectio Salernitana... Napoli, 1852-1859, i. p. 234), is probably the third of that name and son of Matthew Platearius of Salerno.

Vellum, 5 7/8 x 3 7/8, ff. 125, well written in the same hand as U.8.9 and U.8.10, in single cols. of 27 lines, each 4 1/8 x 2 3/4, ruled and margined with brown crayon, signatures, mostly cropped, catchwords, pagination, contemporary (pp. 1-248), large and small illuminated initials with gestures, as in the above named MSS., rubrics, initials touched with vermilion, red and blue capitals and paragraph marks, marginalia (rare), much cropped, otherwise well preserved and clean, fol. sec. De abrotano. Early Cent. XIV.
Binding: As in U.8.9 and U.8.10, title (gilt) on green morocco shield: PLATEAR | DE | MEDICIN | CODEX | M.S. Dr. Wm. Hunter's crest in the lowest panel (a Hunter's Horn). Cent. XVIII.
