Ends (35, 1 verso [page '686'] lines 27, 28): natissimo sopra un eminente pulpite fece, una bene erudita ora | tione etc.
Remarks: The Epistle dedicatory occupies pages 1-4, line 3. The history begins with Attila and comes down to 19th May, 1382, Book X. pp. 497-574, Book XI. pp. 574-end. About 3 inches have been cut off the last folio, a slip has been pasted over this and the text supplied in a later hand. This supplement is copied on two insets before p. 685 and after p. 686 respectively.
On i, 3 verso is the heraldic book-plate of Joseph Smith (1682-1770), British Consul at Venice, which also occurs in T.8.20, q.v. His arms are: on a shield party per fess, above: (azure) a lion dexter, marchant (argent), below: (argent) two chevrons (sable), each charged with three fleurs-de-lis (argent). The crest is a right arm erect, chequy (vert and argent), the hand (proper) grasping three arrows. The name: Joseph Smith is underneath.

Paper, 12 3/4 x 9, ff. 345, originally ff. 354+, written in one hand, in single cols. of 31 lines, each 10 x 7, margins folded, not ruled, signatures (in top left hand corners), catchwords (each page), pagination (from 1, 2 recto pp. 1-686) contemporary, pp. 124, 125 bis, pp. 342 et seqq. for pp. 242 et seqq. corrected later. Cent. XVII.
Binding: Original (?), millboards, covered vellum, vellum straps, original rough edges, title (gilt) on red morocco shield: HISTORIA | VENETIA | DEL CAROLDO | M.S. | SINO 1582. Cent. XVII.
