Begins - after an index in three cols. which occupies the first six folios, beginning (1, 1 recto col. a, line 1): A [ornamental initial with gestures] ngelorum proprietates notantur 2. 1. and ending (1, 6 verso lines 1-33) with a table of contents with this rubric: In hoc uolumine libri 19 continentur - (2, 1 recto col. a, lines 1-3): Incipit prefatio fratris Bartholomei in libro | de proprietatibus rerum [rubric] | C [ornamental initial with gestures] vm proprietates rerum sequantur substantias
Ends (28, 4 verso col. a, lines 5-9): recitantur ut patere possit diligentius intuenti. | Explicit tractatus de proprieta- | tibus rerum Secundum fratrem Bartho- | lomeum Anglicum de ordine mi- | norum. Anno domini m.cc. [millesimo ducentesimo] nono.

On 1, 1 recto top margin, in a contemporary hand: Bartholomeus de proprietatibus rerum de dono domini J. de B. abbatis ad usum monachorum Sancti edmundi. B. 332. Apropos of this inscription Dr. James notes that this MS. came from Bury St. Edmunds, and suggests that J. de B. may be Johannes de Brinkley.
Under B. 332 (the original press-mark) in a late XVII. Cent. hand: Caroli Bernard. For Charles Bernard see T.5.14 (Description).
On 28, 4 verso col. a, in a XVI. Cent. hand: Rounde aboute this house god I besete: | If anye thefe or theves hither do come | god be them before, and doo them lette | By the vertue of the resurrection | and xij apostles, marke, mathew. | luke, and John, | I bynde you theves alsoo faste, | as dyd bartlemew the devill | with his bearde soo hoore: | That they doo me no drede nor | feare | nor anye good that they awaye beare | vntyll the tyme that I bydde them goo. | . Amen. | . credat qui vult. ye (?) Sentor (?) | Quum non sit credibile [the last three lines in contemporary Italic hand].
On ii, 1 recto in a XV. Cent. hand: a cople of | capons and | a hundred of | wardens | halfe a hundred | of wardens | mr. honyngis.
On the same page, reversed, in a late XV. Cent. hand is a note of Latin Grammar lessons set to four pupils, Roger, John Clepton, Edmund, and John Brewster, on three successive dates "die lune decimo sexto ffebruarij," "die mercurij," and "die martis vicesimo quarto februarij."
On the verso of this folio, in a XVI. Cent. hand: vj leves spare.

Vellum, 13 3/4 x 9, ff. 209, originally ff. 224, well written in an English hand, in double cols. of 49 lines (index in three cols.), each 10 x 2 7/8, ruled and double margined with ink, signatures, catchwords, no foliation, blue initials with red ornament and gestures, rubrics, blue paragraph marks, few marginalia, excepting 1, 6. mutilated, well preserved, fol. sec. Camelion bestia. Cent. XIV (last ).
Binding: Millboards, replacing original oak boards, covered calf, blind-tooled, recently re-backed, title (gilt) on modern crimson morocco shield: BARTHOLOMEUS | DE | PROPRIETATIBUS | RERUM. Cent. XVII.-XVIII.
