Begins - after a title page on 1, 1 recto thus: This Booke of soueraigne | Medicines against the most comon and | knowne diseases both of Men and women | was by goode proofe and long experience | collected by Doctor ffecknam late Abbott of Westminster, and that | cheifly For those who have not allwayes the learned Phistians | at hand. | ** | * - and an index which extends from 1, 3 recto lines 1-4: "Here followeth the Table | of this present Booke wherein you | shall find all things contained by Order | of the Alphebett" | to 1, 9 recto lines 21, 22: "Warts - 257 | FINIS Tabulę" - (2, 1 [fol. 1] recto lines 1, 2): A medicine for a contynuall Headach. | Take Betony water, and take a cloth three or
Ends (19, 2 [fol. 281 (284)] verso lines 31, 32): cure by dipping a rag in it and putting vp the part | grieued, as often as the party pleaseth.
Remarks: The receipts on 1, 2 recto and verso and pp. 258 verso-272 verso are in later hands than that found earlier in the book. The first quire contains (1, 3 recto-9 recto) an alphabetical index of contents which ends (as above): FINIS Tabulę. A similar FINIS concludes page 257, the last three lines being: it is a very healthfull medicine as it hath been | often proved. | FINIS.

Paper, 11 x 7½, ff. 281, originally ff. 284 [290 pp., originally 292 pp.], in single cols. of about 26 lines, each 9¼ x 5¼, signatures on the first recto of each quire (left top corner), catchwords on each page, pagination (from 2, 1 recto to 19, 2 verso), margined with red ink, cropped. Late Cent. XVI.
Binding: Millboards, covered grained Russia, gilt-tooled sides (lines with florets in corners) and edges, panelled back, saffron edges, title: FLECKNAM | SOVER | MEDICINES | M.S. Cent. XVIII.
