Begins (1, 1 [fol. 1] recto line 1): To make sirop of Eringas which is sea hulver [hulver is the Suffolk name for holly].
Ends (8, 12 [fol. 150, not numbered] recto lines, 35, 36): restore it to the former goodnes probatum | Finis
Remarks: On i, 2 recto, in early XVIII. Cent. hand: Tartara medicum 3 grains for a uomit, 2 or 3 drink water gruel. On the same page under this, in somewhat earlier hand: Liber Bartholomai Blogate | de Southolte in commitatu | Suffolcia, qui multa cura | et industria eum | transcripsit. Under this the first hand has scribbled: tarter. At the bottom of the page reversed in the same hand (?): this is for Mr. iohn cosens a malt | ster liveing in lowath in link horn shire.
On the verso of fol. 150, in nearly contemporary hand: The true index of every | receipt conteined within | this booke.
Under this, receipts "for sore eyes" and "To stay a rughme [i.e. rheum] in the eys."
Dr. James notes: "Is not this almost certain to have belonged to Th. Martin? It is a Suffolk book."

Paper, 11 3/4 x 7 3/4, ff. 151, originally ff. 164, well written in one hand, in single cols. of about 44 lines, each about 11 x 6, no signatures or catchwords, foliation (1-149) contemporary. Early Cent. XVII.
Binding: ?Original, millboards, covered brown calf, blind-tooled lines, remains of four green silk tags. Cent. XVII.
