On the second fly-leaf recto is pasted a printed slip as follows:
ORIGINAL PROCLAMATIONS OF QUEEN ELIZABETH. | This Volume contains a very large Collection of | most rare and curious Proclamations of different Years | of her Reign, concerning the Coin, Mint, Wool | and Woolen Cloths, Spanish, Irish and Scotch Affairs, | Traytors, Wines, Pardons, Commissions, War, Peace, | Treaties, &c. | The Proclamations are written very fairly, and | all signed by her Majesty's own hand, and many | of them countersigned by her Chancellor and other | great Officers of State. | N.B. They are a most rare Collection, and of | very great Value; the Earl of Oxford once offered | Mr. Martin one Hundred Guineas for them, which | he refused.
This MS. evidently belonged to Thomas Martin of Palgrave (1697-1771), many of whose MSS. are now in this collection. See Dict. N. Biog. xxxvi. p. 297
