The Christopher White to whom the "Cursus Chemicus" is assigned, was born 1651, and died Professor of Chemistry at Oxford 1696. See Fletcher's Collectanea, vol. i., pp. 299, 316. The Christopher White, whose handwriting is found in VI. to XIII., was probably a kinsman of the next generation. He may have died about 1751, as there are no entries later than that year, although spaces remain, e.g. on fol. 157 recto and 160 verso. The same hand appears in the sets of receipts, medical and culinary, in ff. 32 recto-41 recto, and in 52 pages numbered consecutively from the back thus: 1-52 = ff. 239 verso (inverted) to 217 recto. The writer of II. seems to have contributed most of the receipts, etc., between f. 14 verso and f. 159 recto. The same hand as wrote I. appears in another list of medical receipts; f. 65 verso (inverted) to f. 59 verso (inverted) of which f. 65 is mutilated and has been repaired; f. 64 is adventitious. In continuation of the receipts for Cattle Distemper, immediately following XIII., there are newspaper cuttings dealing with this subject, which extend, with brief intermissions (duly noted by Christopher White), to f. 120 verso (inverted) and covering the period from January, 1745, to August 9, 1751.
Loose cuttings and notes occur between the following folios: 46, 47; 123, 124; 242, 243.
On 30, 7 verso (inverted) is an autograph, in a late XVII. Cent. hand: Elizabeth Ewer.
Cuttings from General Advertiser, Nov. 29(?), 1746; Daily Post, Nov. 14, 1745; London Gazette, various dates; Daily Advertiser, Dec. 25, 1745; London Courant, Sept. 17, 1746; Gazetteer, No. 271.
Advertisements: (Jas. Smyth, New Bond Street), f. 177, et al. Quicksilver mines of Almaden, 11, 1 verso (inverted) 10, 12 verso (inverted). Cure for the bite of a mad dog, 10, 12 verso; f. 198 recto; f. 199 recto.
