Content: Correspondence (primarily incoming letters to Una Rota relating to Annie French, with some copies of her outgoing letters), grouped by topic, familial connection or membership to an organisation. Alongside nearly 600 letters and postcards there are Rota's notes, research material and images of French's work. Some of the topics discussed include Rota's contribution to Jude Burkhauser's 'Glasgow Girls' (1990) and the Barbican's 'The Last Romantics' (1989), The Lady Artists Club, The Society of Lady Artists and French's greetings cards.
Other notable artists discussed include Jessie M King, De Courcy Lewthwaite Dewar and George Woolliscroft Rhead. Letters from Annie French's family including her nephew, Eric French (file 6) and James Meldrum (file 10) are particularly informative as they give an insight into French's personality and chart the progress and process of Rota's research. Other correspondents include Louise Annand.
There are also several catalogues of the Walker Art Gallery Autumn Exhibition; 1905, 1906, 1909 and 1911.
Arrangement: Most of this material was received in an A-Z concertina file with the contents arranged broadly alphabetically by surname of correspondent. The contents of each section have been transferred as found into separate archive folders.
