Title: The Dugald Stewart Monument on Calton Hill

Description: Dugald Stewart (1753-1828) was a well-known Scottish philosopher. His monument, completed in 1831, was designed by William H Playfair, based on the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens. An urn is contained within the columns. This view is more tightly framed than HA638. The negative was made on paper watermarked "J Whatman" and was waxed. It is inscribed in pencil "304" and in ink "5B".
