Tischendorf Collection

frontispiece from KT 306

The personal library of the biblical scholar Constantin von Tischendorf (1815-1874), who discovered and published Codex Sinaiticus. After his death in Leipzig the collection was purchased for £460, raised by Thomas Martin Lindsay and Alexander Balmain Bruce, for the Free Church College (subsequently Trinity College), Glasgow and transferred with the rest of the College Library to the University of Glasgow in 1974. Its 1,000 or so volumes include Tischendorf’s copies of most of his own publications, many early works on textual criticism, and a wide range of near eastern travelogues. There are also a few personal documents.
